Larger Than Life: A Guide to the BIGGEST things to see in Australia

Australia might be famous for its tiny but deadly creatures, but did you know we have some of the largest things to ever exist? There are some things that you absolutely must see to believe, and these ‘big’ things are a must for your adventures around Australia.

The Big Banana

So famous that it has become a right of passage for Australians, the big banana in Coffs Harbour has been a-PEEL-ing to visitors since 1964. Like other big attractions, it is an ode to the area’s booming banana industry and has a small fun park with rides and mini golf within the grounds. It even has an indoor ski slope!

The Big Golden Guitar

When Australians think of country music, they are without a doubt thinking of the New South Wales town of Tamworth. This town is the heart of country music and the big golden guitar is a lovely reminder of that rich musical heritage.

The Big Merino

The Australian export of wool has been part of the creation of our great nation, and so it’s no surprise that one of the biggest merino wool regions has built a statue in their honour. The big merino, affectionately known as Rambo, was originally built closer to the regional town of Goulburn New Sout Wales but was later moved by truck down the road and had a gift shop installed inside.

The Big Lobster

South Australia’s pride must be Larry the Lobster who stands at 17 metres tall and is a testament to the region’s seafood industry whilst simultaneously bringing in visitors to see the gigantic lobster.

The Big Galah

Not quite the bustling town feature as some of its large brethren, but the big galah is nevertheless, a wonderful sight to see. Found along the Eyre Highway near Kimba in South Australia, this big pink bird is a key landmark for travellers crossing the Nullarbor Plain.

The Big Prawn

What was almost demolished in 2009 but thankfully is still going strong, is the famous big prawn in Ballina, New South Wales. It sits in front of another great Australian icon (Bunnings Warehouse) and brings joy to the townspeople and visitors to this beautiful seaside town.
