Kathryn Smith

Senior Immigration Lawyer

Kathryn Smith was born and raised in Brisbane, though a love of travel has seen her backpack through various countries including Holland, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Argentina.

Kathryn has completed a Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of International Relations (Hons) through Griffith University, a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice through Queensland University of Technology and a Legal Practice Management course through the College of Law. Kathryn was admitted to practice as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2013 as well as being on the Register of Practitioners of the High Court.

Kathryn has practiced primarily in the area of migration law since developing a passion for assisting clients in the complex and often challenging area whilst volunteering at the Refugee and Immigration Legal Service as part of her undergraduate degree. Since then Kathryn has worked for several firms in Brisbane and has extensive migration experience ranging from visa lodgment through to both Tribunal and Court review matters. Kathryn has successfully assisted clients with a broad range of complex matters, including securing a health waiver for a child with cerebral palsy so that he could remain in Australia with his mother whilst she continued her studies, and several complicated protection visa matters from clients from Venezuela, the Congo and Afghanistan.

Having had her own partner go through the stressful and often frustrating migration process ensures Kathryn approaches all client matters with diligence, empathy and a focus on customer care.

Outside of work Kathryn enjoys spending time with her partner and son and their menagerie of pets, and tending to her large vegetable garden.
