If you are on a partner visa, and your sponsoring partner dies, you may be eligible to stay in Australia and go on to gain permanent residency status. But what happens if you are on a temporary work visa, and you died while you were in Australia? Would your family be able to stay here? Or would they need to go back home and try to emigrate on their own merits?
Logic tells us that the employer would need to foot the costs of the return of your body and belongings to your home country.
Logic also tells us that if your partner is on a 457, and you’re here with him or her, that you and any children would also need to go back home to your own country.
However this all needs to be verified – even DIBP are no help?
