It’s almost Christmas holiday time. And while we all pretend to dislike the ‘C’ word, it is usually because we leave things until the last minute. Here are some tips that will make this Christmas your easiest yet.

Believe it or not, it all starts with the gifts.

Finish your gift-buying before 7 November

There are so many benefits to this. One of them is that you avoid tinny Christmas carols stuck on repeat in your favourite stores. Another is that you avoid the increasing press of people as the season gets closer.

But it also lets you shop online without the hassle.

If, like most of us, you like to buy things online, it’s a good idea to get your gifts sorted out now-isn. By aiming to have all of your Christmas shopping done by the start of November, you will:

  • save money
  • reduce stress, anxiety, and pressure
  • know exactly what is coming, and when
  • get your gifts in the mail in time for Christmas delivery.

Buy from stores close to those back home

Depending on the stores in which you shop, you may also be able to choose to have gifts delivered directly. This is an absolute boon to you as a migrant, because there’s a good chance that you still have many friends and family overseas.

One of the best ways to do this is choose stores that are in your home country. Or, if possible, close friends and family regardless of their locations.

If you plan it right, you will be able to estimate a delivery date just ahead of the Christmas break.

As migrants, postage is both a blessing and a curse

It’s great to be able to send things to people everywhere in the world. But if you get it wrong, miss a critical date, or send something by the wrong method, it can be more hassle than it’s worth.

Once you’ve purchased all of your gifts, you’ll be able to go and speak with Australia Post about the best options for delivery. Being so organised, you won’t have to take the only available option, and will end up saving yourself a great deal of hassle.

Planning for Christmas is more than just your visa

Being able to enjoy your end-of-year break isn’t just about making sure you’re on the right visa. If you’re already thinking about your travel, spare a thought for your gifts too. Make your Christmas break the best one you’ve had yet.
