Simpler Australian Student Visa Assessment

Australia's student visa assessment levels have been simplified. Read on to find out how.

In good news for students, Australia’s student visa assessment levels have been simplified.

Until recently, if you wanted a student visa for Australia, you had to go through five levels of assessment. That meant you had to provide a lot of evidence to support your case. You needed to provide evidence for each level. These changes were promised by the Department of Immigration in November 2013.

Student visa assessment levels have dropped. Good news!

As of March 2014, the number of levels have fallen: From five, to three.

Some of the changes include:

  • Updates to the English-language tests you can use instead of IELTS
  • Updates to the living and ‘other costs’, in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Because the system has been simplified, the assessment levels needed for different types of passports has also been updated.

If you are applying for a student visa, make sure you find out what the changes mean to you. More than likely, they will save you a lot of time and effort.
