Change to Medical Services Provider – July 2014

Last updated 21 July 2014.

The migration medical services provider will change at the end of July 2014. The current provider, Medibank Healthcare Solutions (MHS), is being replaced by Bupa Medical Visa Services.

If you are booking appointments for health checks, you need to go through MHS, up until 28 July. After that date you will have to contact Bupa Medical Visa Services.

Important: If you are booking appointments between now and 24 July, you may be asked to contact Bupa. Medibank Healthcare Solutions is reducing hours in their final week providing services for the Department. This page will be updated as more information becomes available.

Changes to Health Systems – 24 March 2014

Update published 1 April 2014.

There have been a number of recent changes to the systems used for visa application health checks. These include:

  • changes to online forms for Subclass 476 and Subclass 485 visas
  • changes to online applications
  • improvements to the eMedical system
  • re-use of health results that were gained in the past 12 months.

The re-use of health results is an important change. The new system will automate the re-use of those results. For those working in the immigration field note that the Procedure Advice Manual has also been expanded. It now includes re-use of a temporary clearance made by a Medical Officer of the Commonwealth in certain circumstances.

There are other changes made, too, to improve your experience using the system. Overall, it will make the process of gaining health checks much easier for you.

Do you have the right information about health checks?

Published 13 September 2013.

The roll-out of the eMedical system to Medibank Health Solutions (MHS) is well under way. Clinics in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, and Bibra Lake are all eMedical enabled, and have been so since 2 September 2013. The remaining clinics – which are in Darwin, Brisbane, Southport and Townsville – will be functioning electronically by the end of September. This means that all cases will be processed electronically.

You can check to see which MHS clinics are online, by going to visit the MHS website.

What you need to do

If you wish to undertake your examination onshore at an eMedical MHS clinic, there are some things you need to do.

1 – Provide your HAP ID (TRN or HRI) so that your case can be located in the eMedical system. If you don’t have a HAP ID, talk to your visa case officer. They should give you this when you are referred for a medical. If you have not yet lodged an application, complete the My Health Declarations (MHD) form click here .

2. Complete your medical history questions online using the eMedical Client service. You’ll be automatically directed there if you apply online or are an MHD client. If you’ve lodged a paper visa application, you can access the service independently using your HAP ID.

What happens if I don’t do the two steps above?

If you go to an eMedical enabled clinic without doing the two steps required, your appointment may be delayed until the steps are completed. MHS will only process using eMedical, and to do so, MHS clinics provide computer service kiosks to help you.

Make sure your migration agent/lawyer gives you the right advice.

If you haven’t been encouraged by your migration agent to proceed as per this article, or you are directed to attend with paper forms, ask them whether it is appropriate to do so given the implementation of eMedical. Make sure you are getting the right advice to ensure that your health checks are as painless as possible.
